Set Up Balto for Desktop (β)

With the Balto for Desktop (β) app you can seamlessly capture screenshots and screen recordings from your computer. Great for if you want to send feedback for desktop websites. Here's how to get started.

Download the Balto for Desktop (β) App

  1. Start off by logging into the web dashboard. Head over to where it says Apps.
  2. Click where it says Balto for Mac or Balto for Windows to download the desktop app. While you are signed into the web dashboard, create your desktop project.

Create a Desktop Project from the Web Dashboard

  1. From the top right corner of the web dashboard, click on the + button to create your desktop project.
  2. Enter your project name and select Desktop as the project type. 

Once you've created your desktop project from the web dashboard, open the Balto app.

Note: Depending on your settings on your computer, you may need to go through a few simple steps to approve Balto. Refer to the details below for more info.

Unidentified Developer Message (Mac)

  1. macOS has a feature called Gatekeeper that only allows Apple approved software to run on your Mac. If you receive the following message shown below, follow the steps to get it approved.
  2. Head to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
  3. Next to the message where it says, "Balto for desktop(β)" was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer, click Open Anyway.
    Note: You'll only be asked for this the first time you run the app on your computer.

  4. The Balto app will open. Sign in to your Balto account.
  5. Select the desktop project that you created from the web dashboard. You'll now be able to begin sending your screenshot and screen recorded feedback from your desktop.

Windows Defender SmartScreen Message (Windows)

If you've downloaded the Windows version of Balto, you may receive the following message when you try to open the Balto app. Similar to Gatekeeper, Windows has its own security feature called SmartScreen that checks the software that you've downloaded. Simply follow the steps below to approve the Balto app.

  1. If the following message comes up, click where it says, More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.
  3. The Balto app will open. Sign in to your Balto account. 
  4. Select the desktop project that you created from the web dashboard. You'll now be able to begin sending your screenshot and screen recorded feedback from your desktop.
